I found THE DRESS.

Yes, that’s right. I found my wedding dress!!! I know it’s a little early for a June 2012 wedding, but it was necessary. I bought it just a couple weeks before it was discontinued on April 15. It is Maggie Sottero’s Paigely and was just perfect for me for a number of reasons.

While on my shopping journey, I realized that there are many things one should consider when shopping for a dress which is what we will be discussing here.

Some Things to Consider When Shopping for Your Dream Wedding Dress

1. Price- Set your budget before looking for a dress. It is important to establish this before even browsing, this way you do not become attached to a dress that is out of your price range.

2. Style- Have a style in mind. Go shopping with a style (dress shape, fitting) in mind but be open in case you find something that you love that is similar to what you were originally looking for.

3. Color- Consider the color. Nowadays you can find dresses in white, diamond white, champagne, gold, or even different shades of ivory. When choosing a color, keep your skin tone in mind. If you are a naturally pale, it may be best to go for a shade of ivory rather than white or diamond white. If you are of a darker skin tone, white and diamond white might be most flattering on you.

4. Venue- You want something that is fitting for your venue as well. If you are getting married on the beach, a ballgown with a long train may not be fitting. However, if you are getting married in a ballroom or more formal venue- a cotton dress may not be fitting either. Choose something that is suited to the environment in which you will be married.

5. Opinion- Be practical. Listen to the opinions of friends or family who are going shopping with you. However, bringing to many people along can be quite distracting. Bring a few of your closest friends, your mother, or FMIL and listen to what they have to say. However, also listen to your gut because it is ultimately YOUR wedding.

6. Find brands you like and look for local trunkshows- You can find trunk show dates on the brand websites usually. That is how I found mine! Going during a trunk show means that there will be a variety of sample dresses to try on in that brand. Trunk shows mean there is a sale on that brand such as 10% or more. This is a good way to shop on a budget.

7. One you’ve found the dress STOP looking- When you found your fiance, did you keep looking for a man? NO. When you’ve got something perfect- stick with it and stop browsing around.

8. Discontinuation – If you don’t buy right away, but have a few particular dresses in mind, ask the store to keep you updated in case the dresses are scheduled to discontinue in the near future. You do not want to lose your perfect dress to discontinuation.

Hope you enjoyed this post! I’d love to hear your shopping tips! If you have any that you think should be added to this list, write them in the comments.
